FSU Rolls Past McDaniel in Season Opener
FROSTBURG, Md. - For the second-straight year,
Frostburg State University opened its season and the first round of
the Pride of Maryland Tournament with a victory over McDaniel
College. On Tuesday evening, FSU raced out to a 20-point lead in
the first half en route to a 76-48 victory over the Green
Terror.

The Bobcats shot 43.1 percent from the field (22-of-51), including
48.0 percent (12-of-25) in a wild first half. FSU led by as many as
24 points late in the first and limited McDaniel to just two points
until 7:55 was left until halftime.
FSU was led by its five-member senior class that combined to score
50 of the team's 76 points. Senior Maurice
Williams led all players with 20 points and 11 rebounds
and was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line. Junior DeSean
Antoine was second for the Bobcats with 16 points.
Frostburg opened the first half on a 9-0 run that set the tempo
for the rest of contest. Antoine's second three-pointer of the
opening half capped a 14-0 run for Frostburg and handed the hosts a
23-2 lead with 8:17 showing.
McDaniel made six free throws and a layup to cut it to 25-10 at
5:35, but the Bobcats extended their lead to 24 points on two
occasions before grabbing a 40-17 lead at halftime.
McDaniel again cut the deficit to 15 points, 42-27, less than
three minutes into the second half. But that was as close as it
would get as Frostburg collected a 14-4 run to push its lead to a
then game-best 25 points, 56-31. The Bobcats kept their lead over
20 points for the rest of the game and pushed it to 30 points late
in the contest before the final horn.
Frostburg held the Green Terror to just five baskets in the
opening half as they shot just 33.3 percent (17-of-51) for the
game. Devon Lesniak led the visitors with 12 points.
The Bobcats advance in the Pride of Maryland Tournament and will
take on Salisbury on Friday, Nov. 18, at 6:00 pm. The game will be
played at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
